Congratulations on taking the first step to becoming a Youth Member in the 28th YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament!

All young people in Queensland aged 15 to 25 inclusive are encouraged to apply. We seek a diverse range of young people to represent the state's young people, so no specific experience or background is required: we primarily look for passion and a demonstrated interest in your community.

The program is run by an Executive team, all under the age of 25 - truly making this a program by young people, for young people. If selected, you will be allocated a Mentor who will guide you through the entire program and ensure that you are not only enjoying your time, but are supported and engaged throughout the experience.

Key program information:

1.NOMINATIONS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL 11.59pm Friday 24 February 2023. Nominations submitted after this time will not be considered.

2. You will be informed of the outcome of your nomination in March. If successful, you will be sent an electronic letter of offer.

3. Launch Weekend will occur in Brisbane from Friday 14 April - Sunday 16 April. At this residential weekend, you will meet your Executive and other Youth Members, and discuss and plan your ideas for your Portfolio's Youth Bill.

4. Between Launch Weekend and Residential Sitting Week, you will assist in drafting the Youth Bill, attend community consultations with key stakeholders, engage with your community, and be the representative for youth in your electorate.

5. Residential Sitting Week will be held in Brisbane from Sunday 24 September - Saturday 30 September. This week is the culmination of the program, where you will debate your Youth Bills in Parliament House, meet with Members of Parliament, and participate in exciting personal development activities.

6. Nominees must be at least 15 years old by Launch Weekend (14 April 2023) and no older than 25 years old by the end of Residential Sitting Week (30 September 2023).

Please note: the format of the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament may change in response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. Options will be available for all participants, and all young people are encouraged to apply. If you have any questions, please email qypcoordinator@ymcabrisbane.org.

6. If you are in Years 11 or 12 and attending school in Queensland, you are eligible to receive one point towards your QCE upon successful completion of the program (including relevant assessments).

7. The Executive will provide significant support and assistance during your time as a Youth Member, including training in public speaking, leadership skills development, seeking sponsorship, and drafting legislation.
