Interested in the future of False Creek?
You are receiving this questionnaire because you expressed an interest  in what  the False Creek Friends are  doing next.  And you can help by filling out this questionnaire.  Your aspirations and yes,  your concerns about the future are important.  Your skills may turn out to be very important in healing our environmental and social deficits. In these times, everyone matters. And every organism matters too, in these times of rampant biodiversity loss.

So please - tell us about yourself. What matters to you. What you can contribute, in terms of skills, passion, energy.    And please - watch this short video - handmade and presented by our volunteers.

And please be assured that all information collected will never be shared with any third party.

Potential Areas for Action
Thinking about your answers above, please have a look at our potential, practical areas for conservation and reconciliation activities (they can go together beautifully, btw  - see here).

Since its inception in 2020, False Creek Friends has committed to creating conservation actions based on rigorous scientific evidence and competent  policy analysis.   The results of False Creek BioBlitz 2022, conducted by Hakai Institute and Biologica Environmental Services will more precisely guide our work.

Clearly, there are areas of actions  that certainly will require collective effort by government agencies, institutions, and citizen participation. You can read more about what False Creek Friends anticipate are the general action areas by looking at our To Do List, but these are some of the specific actions that will be considered:
  • Improve Water Quality by reducing anthropogenic causes
  • Rehabilitating marine ecosystems / Addressing Biodiversity Loss
  • Public education and identification of unwise human behaviours
  • Guardianship / stewardship programs in alliance with Indigenous Peoples
  • Seeking special status for False Creek through official recognition
Where I see myself making a useful contribution:
A New Day for False Creek - and you are invited!
Thanks for filling out our questionnaire! There's another section below for those who may have a project in mind for our consideration. If not, please jump to the bottom and click "submit". Otherwise - if you have something you'd like to share with us,  please read below on how to share, and then click  "submit".

Thank you everyone!
What can we do together to help heal our natural environment?
False Creek has seen some dark days over the past 170 years of colonization, the eviction of Indigenous Peoples, and the impact of heavy industry in what is now the heart of Vancouver. But new ideas and values are emerging - and some people believe that a new day is dawning. Just as New York City became the envy of urban planners everywhere with its High Line Park, False Creek can truly become the "Gateway to the Salish Sea" - an inspiration for metropolitan cities worldwide.

Watch the video below!   And then hit the "Submit" button at the very bottom.

And thank you for participating in the questionnaire...we hope you find a place in this meaningful and practical work!

FALSE CREEK FRIENDS SOCIETY

We'd like to pay our respects to the living descendants of the Salish Peoples, and to their ancestors. We are very grateful to be here, aware of the mistakes of our ancestors, and learning about our own. We hope to be better neighbors in the future. Thank you.
