ATTRIBUTES
A board is more than a collection of individuals. It is an entity that governs, approves strategy
and engages in robust discussion and debate on relevant issues. It must act as a single entity. As
such, the personality traits you bring to the board will help us to ensure that we have a diversity
of personality styles and traits that, when added to our current board members, will enhance
the ability of the board members to work together as a governing body.
Please mark all of the following traits that you exhibit:
FUNDRAISING
Among other responsibilities, board members play a key role in raising funds for Make Food Not
Waste. It is an expectation of board service that you will introduce people in your sphere of
influence to our work and invite them to know more – as prospective volunteers, board
members, staff and as donors. Make Food Not Waste is committed to providing you with the
information and tools necessary for you to stand as a vocal and visible ambassador for the work
we do.
Further, we expect every board member to make an annual financial commitment for each year
of board service. This financial commitment should be at a level that is meaningful to you, and
could be either a “give” or a “get” (fundraising on your own to reach a certain goal).
Can you speak to your level of comfort with this expectation?
TIME
Board service is a true commitment of time and energy. We estimate that board service could
be a commitment of 4-8 hours each month. This includes board meetings, keeping up with
emails and updates, reviewing documents ahead of meetings, subcommittee work, special
events, and volunteering with the organization. We currently meet on the third Thursday of
every odd month (January, March, May, July, September, November) from 6-730 pm.
Do you have any concerns or potential conflicts that may serve as impediments to this time
commitment? If so, how will you manage the demands on your time?
FINAL QUESTION
Is there any information in this application that you would like to keep confidential? If so, please
specify what and we will remove that information before sharing your application with board
members that are not on the recruitment committee.
Please send your resume to the Board Secretary, Rachelle Bonelli at rachelle@makefoodnotwaste.org.
