Ensuring appropriate student placement is a meticulous and thorough process. We gather input from various stakeholders, including your child's current teachers, resource staff, interventionists, administrators, and support staff to form homeroom classes. Each student's placement is based on a diverse set of criteria that align with the Howard County Public School System's commitment to heterogeneous grouping philosophy. Some of these criteria include, but are not limited to:
- the personality of the child
- racial and ethnic diversity
- written output
- test results
- reading strengths and needs
- special education requirements; IEP goals
- structured versus non-structured needs
- information from previous teachers and school counselor/Student Services team
