What is the Multi-benefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP)?
The Multi-benefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP) is a state-funded grant program created to help reduce the overuse of groundwater (water conservation) and find win-win-win solutions for the environment, farmers, and communities of the Lower Salinas Valley.
The idea behind multi-benefit land repurposing is to work with interested landowners/growers to provide funds for the voluntary transition of flood-prone, least productive irrigated farmlands and repurpose them into projects that support long-term water conservation and help reduce flooding, improve water supply, restore habitat, and create meaningful benefits for communities adjacent to projects.
