Portland Art Prize 2021 - Sponsored by The Foundations | Theme: Isolation | First Prize $650 | Second Prize $350
This year artists entering the theme section are invited to interpret 'ISOLATION'.
Artists are permitted one entry only in this section. This entry forms one of the maximum of three entries permitted.
Artists are asked to include a 50 word description of how their work interprets the theme.
The prizes will be awarded after independent judging. The judge will be announced prior to the Art Exhibition. The judges’ decision will be final.
Simply Drawing Prize - Sponsored by Joe Penn & Lesley O’Shea | Prize $300
Artwork must be a drawing using pencil, charcoal or pen. Black & white only, back to basics.
Artists are permitted one entry only in this section. This entry forms one of the maximum of three entries permitted.
The prize will be awarded after judging takes place by Joe Penn & Lesley O’Shea. The judges’ decision will be final.
Conditions of Entry and Sale of works 2021
Entries close Friday 12 February 2021 and must be received by 5pm. Forms must be postmarked prior to and including 5 February 2021. Late entries NOT accepted.

All works must be delivered to the Crystal Theatre Portland on Wednesday 3 March between 8:15am - 11:00am.

Collection of unsold works Sunday 7 March between 5:30pm – 6:00pm. Definitely no early or late collections.

Important Conditions of Entry and Sale of Works
1. Art submitted must be original work of the artist and not previously exhibited at the Portland Art Exhibition. Photography not accepted (paintings in any medium, etching, collograph and/or lino cut will be accepted).

2. Digital Artworks
2.1. Any digital artworks (excluding photography) entered must be clearly labeled as digital works and must be substantially altered or created from scratch in a digital medium.
2.2. The artist must provide works that are entirely their own composition. Stock images or other artists’ work must not be used in the creation of the work.
2.3. Digital works must be printed on certified archival paper using archival ink. An artist certification must be included on all digital works.
2.4. The Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to any works they feel do not meet these criteria.

3. Entries which are printed media must display the limited number and include the run number on the entry form.

4. Entries are limited to three art works per artist with a fee of $10 per work (size of works are to be no larger than 1 metre in width and length including frame).

5. If entering the themed and/or drawing sections, each entry will be included in the three art works artists may enter.

6. Paintings must be dry and ready to hang, with artist’s name, title of work and price clearly shown on the back of each work. An appropriate wire or string must be attached that can support the weight of the artwork. Unframed matted works not accepted.

7. Paintings to be delivered to and collected from venue at expense of the artist.

8. All works delivered for exhibition MUST be the works as described on the submitted entry form in regard to title, medium and price. Substitutes will not be accepted.

9. A commission fee of 20% will be deducted from the sale price on all works sold.

10. The artist is responsible for arranging insurance for their work if desired. Whilst every precaution is taken to ensure the security of paintings, the Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. cannot accept responsibility for damage to or loss of paintings arising out of entry or participation.

11. Your name and contact information including email address, postal address and telephone number will be held by the Society and used for internal record keeping in connection with the administration and running of the annual Art Exhibition.

12. Unless you request us not to, we may also use this information for the purpose of contacting you about future exhibitions put on by the Society. Other than as required to be law, we will not disclose this information to any other organisation.

13. While the photographing of individual artworks is not encouraged or supported, the Committee is not able to accept any responsibility should this occur. A watermarked online catalogue of works will be provided via our Facebook page and website with images supplied by artists.

14. The Committee is not bound to exhibit any work. All decisions on this matter are final.
