PNT long distance hiker registration - 2019
Registration is optional. Registered hikers will receive important trail alerts at the email address provided; including wildfire information, trail closures, and reroutes. Map updates will accompany the alerts and help you navigate these conditions. The information that you provide helps us to better manage the Pacific Northwest Trail. Thanks for your participation!
Trail Name (optional)
How much of the trail do you plan on hiking in 2019?
The PNTA, in partnership with the United States Forest Service and the University of Montana is collecting data to help us learn more about thru-hikers and their interactions and perceptions of bears, so that we can improve the Pacific Northwest Trail experience and wildlife management for generations to come. We could use your help!
“My name is Bethany Allen and I am a student at the University of Montana currently pursuing my degree in Resource Conservation. This summer, I am working on a study to better understand the movements and perceptions of thru-hikers on the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail and the movements of grizzly bears in Cabinet-Yaak region to inform future management of the trail. In order to complete this research, I will need participants who are hiking the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail in 2019! This work will involve you carrying a small GPS unit that we will provide for a portion of the hike and the information will help with management of bears and hikers along the PNNST and improve the trail experience for thru-hikers and improve wildlife management. Since there are so few thru-hikers on the trail, the information that you could provide will be critically important and we hope you will participate!"
Can we count on you to participate?
Yes, I would like to participate (Bethany will contact you at the email you've listed above)
