Pyes Pā School has made the exciting move towards greater use of the Google online platform for learning.
At Pyes Pā we identified the growing importance of giving our students the opportunities to become digital citizens. This is where students have the skills, abilities and confidence to safely explore and utilise digital technologies in the 21st century.
We are committed to providing Chromebooks in our middle and senior classrooms. Our long-term goal is to have 1 to 1 Google devices across our middle and senior school. We currently have 1 to 1 devices in our year 7-8 class.
What this means is if you already have a Chromebook at home you may bring it to school or you may purchase one at Noel Leeming or from your preferred store. By providing a device for your child it becomes their property, which they can use at school throughout years 4 – 8. They will have the ability to take the device home and it is their property when they leave Pyes Pā School.
However, there is no requirement or obligation to buy one. Without purchasing one children are not able to take the devices home. Children who do not purchase one are not disadvantaged and have the same access rights at school.
On Thursday the 22nd of November we have Sam Gibson North Island Google for Education Manager (former teacher and head of IT at Tarawera College) supporting an information evening at Pyes Pā School, at 5:30pm venue to be confirmed (numbers pending).
Sam will present important information regarding;-Accessing google and the strong security measures for school and home.-Advantages of BYOD- Purchasing a device (both Tauranga Boys and Girls have confirmed that this is their device of choice are are also BYOD schools).
