Auditions are 10 minutes long, with Music Director Al Sturgis and his accompanist. Singers are asked to bring a prepared classical song or aria, though other songs may be acceptable. The song does not need to be memorized, though you should bring a separate copy of the music for the accompanist if it is not memorized. You will be asked to sight-sing and vocalize with piano accompaniment. Prior choral music singing experience is expected, preferably in a professional, civic, or college chorus or a strong church choir.
The symphonic chorus rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:45 PM at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Raleigh. Some additional dress rehearsals are required. Singers are expected to buy their music, pay membership dues, and provide their concert wardrobe (designated attire for women and tuxedos for men). A limited number of need-based dues scholarships are available.
