Ward 8 Woods Park Steward Job Application
Ward 8 Woods is a nonprofit organization that acts as caretaker for forested areas in Ward 8 and surrounding areas, including Ft. Stanton Park, Suitland Parkway, Oxon Run Parkway, and Shepherd Parkway.
Park Stewards work 20 to 35 hours a week removing trash, cutting invasive plants, building and maintaining hiking trails, educating residents about environmental issues, and performing other duties as assigned.
This part-time employment opportunity is open to residents of Wards 7 and 8 over the age of 18 who are currently unemployed or working only part-time. Those facing barriers to employment such as a criminal record, disability, or lack of training or experience are encouraged to apply.
REQUIREMENTS
-Must be a Ward 8 or 7 resident over the age of 18 and not already working full-time
-Ability and willingness to work outdoors in hot, cold, and wet conditions
-Ability and willingness to work in hilly, overgrown wooded areas
-Ability to lift 40 pounds repeatedly
-Ability and willingness to handle potentially hazardous materials such as broken glass and rusty metal (gloves are provided)
-Ability and willingness to speak with residents about environmental issues
-Must treat fellow workers, volunteers and residents with respect
