Prof. em. dr. Rutger Jan van der Gaag studied medicine in Utrecht (the Netherlands), where completed his doctoral degree in Multiplex Multiple Disorders: Autism Spectrum Boundary Study. Until 1995 he was an associate professor member of the staff at the University Medical Centre Utrecht. His research topics are developmental disorders, addiction, healthcare, especially the body and mind, health policies and service development. He has published over a hundred articles and book chapters on these topics. He was President of the Netherlands Psychiatric Association as well as specializes in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry.Currently Rutger Jan van der Gaag is vice-president of the Conseil Permanent des Médecins Européens and serves at the EU in platforms of DG Santé on Obesity Prevention, Alcohol and Tobacco regulations and as chair of the Netherlands Surveillance commission on Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) as a European rapporteur on AMR and Vaccination.
