Make it Happen Digital - Gateshead Artists Expression of Interest
Are you a practising artist? Living or working in Gateshead? Would you like to learn how to set up and deliver community-led arts projects?

If the answer is YES then Make it Happen is a real-world training programme for creatives just like you.

Helix Arts and Gateshead Council’s Arts Team have joined forces to provide a FREE practical online training and mentoring programme for artists interested in initiating community art projects in Gateshead.

Make it Happen (MiH) is a Helix Arts initiative offering a flexible, participant-centred programme. It provides training and on-going support to encourage and enable people to create their own project plan, and then deliver activities to their own communities. Ongoing mentoring will be offered throughout, with the opportunity to apply for a paid commission. This is supported by experts in the field and previous course alumni.

Make it Happen aims to support grass roots community activities, increase community volunteering and social networks. The training will include everything from designing a project and developing partnerships, to fundraising and evaluation.

Make it Happen will run over 6 FREE weekly online training and development sessions, taking place from 6 June 2020, with commissioned projects running until March 2021. (See timetable). Dates are subject to Covid-19 updates and advice .

After the initial training, participants will be invited to submit ideas for specific pre-arranged commissions, to create a participatory arts project with a community host in Gateshead.

You will be guided and supported by the creative team at Helix Arts and Gateshead Council's Arts Team who have many years’ experience of delivering participatory arts projects and working with communities.

To be involved all you need is:
- to be an artist living or working in Gateshead
- to have begun to, or are thinking about, delivering participatory workshops within the communities of Gateshead
- to be available to attend the training course (6 sessions, around 3 hours each)
- to have the ability and willingness to undertake self-directed work in-between sessions
- to hold basic computer skills and a current email address

Commissions require you to -
- work with a community host to co-produce, manage and deliver a project after the training course. (The time required for this project depends on ideas and what you decide to deliver/budget limits)
- complete project activities by March 2021 at the latest
