Comparing relational databases and XML
Chapter 1 of Roman's Access Database Design and Programming discusses a number of problems exhibited by "flat" databases (such as spreadsheets): 1) redundancy, 2) poor handling of multiple values, 3) more difficult to update, 4) more difficult to insert partial data, and 5) possible information loss when deleting. Which, if any, of these problems does XML exhibit? How might someone using XML to store data (for example, the kind of book data in Roman's Chapter 1 example) try to address these problems? *
