Rube Goldberg Challenge- 4th and 5th Grade
Thank you for your interest in this GT Enrichment Group for the 2021-2022 school year.

What is the “Rube Goldberg Challenge”? Students transform everyday materials into a wacky innovative machine that accomplishes the given task. However, instead of just “solving” the problem, students are charged with making the solution as complicated and convoluted as possible. By designing and building the machine, students incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts into their creations.

Who: Anyone who is interested must complete an application . *Due to the nature of this project, students will be selected based on the application process.

This group will meet during the following times weekly:
Grade 4: Wednesdays from 11:40-12:40 (during lunch and recess.)
Grade 5: Mondays from 11:40-12:40 (during lunch and recess.)

**Please note: this seminar is work intensive and will last through the spring. Students will be expected to design and build a functioning machine, as well as complete a written piece. Meeting times may have to increase as the due date (TBD) approaches.

Group Expectations
This group will take place during recess/lunch once a week. You are expected to attend and participate in each weekly  session. In addition, at times, work for the group may need to be completed outside of the regularly scheduled times. Students should use their Canvas inbox and let the teacher know if they will be unable to attend a meeting.

As our work will build off of what we complete in previous weeks, if a student misses two unexcused seminar classes they may be asked to step down from the group.

Students are expected to exhibit proper behavior to include, but not limited to, the HCPSS Code of Conduct and expectations established by our school.
