What’s the goal of the Initiative? The goal of the Pipeline Initiative is to help prospective students navigate the application process and to provide the student perspective on being a member of the Ford School community. We particularly welcome inquiries from students from students of color to help increase the diversity in our programs.
How does it work? This outreach program will pair a prospective student, like yourself, with a current graduate student who will act as a mentor and provide guidance on the application process. For example, mentors can read through your personal statement and provide feedback on your resume. Current students will be paired with applicants based on a variety of factors, i.e. policy interests, undergraduate institution, career goals, etc.
What’s the timeframe?Pipeline will provide mentors to prospective students during two mentoring rounds. Submit all application materials by the application deadlines to be paired with a mentor by the Mentor Match Date. First priority will be given to students who submit a personal statement draft by the round deadline. We will do our best to match prospective students who submit their application after the application date.
Pipeline Application Deadline Round 1: Wednesday, November 1, 2017 Round 2: Friday, December 1, 2017
Mentor Match DateRound 1: Monday, November 6, 12017Round 2: Tuesday, December 5, 2017
* Submit your application and personal statement by the deadline to be paired with a mentor by the match date
How do I sign up to be a mentee? 1. Complete the following brief survey to help us pair you with a student mentor.
2. Submit your personal statement draft as a word document, saved as “FullName_PPS.doc”, to email@example.com with the subject line: “Pipeline Personal Statement: FullName”.
Note: Priority for each round will be given to students who submit a personal statement draft by the round deadline. We will do our best to match applicants with a graduate mentor after the round deadline, but cannot guarantee mentor availability.
How can I help? Please circulate the Pipeline Initiative among your own networks. We are actively recruiting students, particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds, interested in pursuing graduate education in public policy.
Please note: The Pipeline Initiative is a voluntary, student-run program and is not affiliated with the Admissions Office. Participation in the Pipeline Initiative does not guarantee admission into the MPP or MPA programs.
