Whose Discussion Group are you in? (This is simply to help us sort answers and target conversation to your group!)
Reflect
on last week's game (if you were able to play). What worked well? What didn't? What did you learn or think about, in terms of legal avenues for public participation in environmental governance and community protection from environmental abuses?
Compare
the strengths and weaknesses of legal protections for public participation around the world. As part of your analysis, you might build on Urkidi and Walter's multi-scalar work from Chile and Argentina to consider differences between local, national, and regional systems.
Examine
your country's track record on public participation in environmental governance. Have they supported or worked against any key legal mechanisms?
Consider
how the rights of Indigenous Peoples are connected to rights for the general public when it comes to participation in environmental decision-making. What is similar? What is or needs to be different? Are there other communities you believe should be specifically recognised in local, national, regional, and/or international law?
Additional Notes
If you would like to capture any reading notes or remember questions you want to raise in class, feel free to record them here. (This is entirely optional: it's simply a bit of extra space for you; you're very welcome to leave it blank!)
