AAS 2025: "Adaptation, Restoration, Rebirth" Proposal Submission Form

The Association of Adaptation Studies invites scholars, researchers, and media creators to their annual conference, hosted in 2025 by Istanbul Bilgi University on the theme of Adaptation, Restoration, RebirthThe program will focus on questions and topics related to this conference theme; however, we will consider contributions on any subject that relates to adaptation studies. Please click here to read the full call, including a list of suggested questions and subtopics.

This form follows a basic format that presumes an independent, 20-minute presentation of a paper or video essay. We also welcome proposals for roundtable sessions that include 4-6 participants, organized around a topic suitable for extended group discussion; pre-constituted panels with 3-4 presenters focusing their work around a specific theme will also be considered. Practice-oriented submissions are especially encouraged.

Roundtable discussants and pre-constituted panelists should each submit a separate proposal, making sure to indicate, under Additional Information, the title of the roundtable/panel and the names of their fellow participants.

If you are a post-graduate student or early-career researcher with limited or no access to institutional funding to attend AAS 2025, you are eligible to apply for a travel bursary sponsored by the Association.

Only registered members of AAS will be granted funding. The amount of the award will depend on the number of selected applicants and the distance/cost of travel to Istanbul, with those working outside of Europe/UK eligible for more robust support.

If you wish to be considered for the travel bursary, please indicate below your year of study/graduation and/or your institutional role/title along with a brief statement (up to 200 words) explaining why attending this year's conference would be especially relevant to your career goals.
If you are a current PhD student, would you like to learn more about the pre-conference graduate workshop to be held at Istanbul Bilgi University?

The AAS graduate mentoring workshop is designed to support emerging scholars in this expanding field. Participants are expected to pre-circulate an outline, chapter, or theoretical framework related to their ongoing doctoral research; at the workshop, each participant will expand on this with a brief (15-minute) presentation, followed by a 30-minute group discussion for peer and expert feedback.

AAS will contribute £50 towards the extra night’s accommodation and cover all workshop fees for selected participants (limited to 5-7 PhD students).

If you select YES, further details and a complete application form for the graduate workshop will follow the acceptance announcement in January.
