Dance shoes
Hi guys,

Upon request some info regarding dance shoes.

Ballroom dance shoes are made of leather or satin, with a very flexible suede sole and a Cuban (1"-1.5") - male and unisex training shoes, Slim or Flare heel (2",2.5",3") (female shoes).

Shoes for Latin and Standard are different for both males and females and you cannot really use one for the other. Latin shoes are more versatile than standard shoes; in other words, if really necessary, you can use latin shoes for salsa and Argentine tango (kind of) and standard are really just for standard.

There are also kinds called "social shoes" and they are more suitable for social dancing, both standard and latin. They are normally of a lesser quality than specific style shoes and are also cheaper. For our own dancing, we do not use social shoes. For yourselves, we would also not advise it, since it's in that case neither for Latin nor for Standard - a kind of a 2-in-1 = 0 scenario.

Guys, latin/standard shoes you buy should fit snug, but you can buy them in your normal size.

Girls, if you go for ballroom shoes you can have a regular fit, so comparable to your regular shoe size, but for latin open toe shoes - you might need to order 0.5 - 1 size smaller than your regular size, because your toes need to slightly "hang" out of the shoe so you have a good connection with the floor. 4. It is only possible to try on the shoes in class on a clean cloth, you are not allowed to dance on them (nope, not even a little: the suede sole is very delicate and if you use them - the shoes cannot be returned).
