Jerome McDowell Scholarship
Scholarship Value = Up to $500-$5,000, Renewable
This is a variable, need-based award of up to 90% of the recipient’s unmet financial need with a limit. Scholarship award amounts are calculated annually and are dependent on the Cost of Attendance, less other assistance or gift aid, with a range of $500-5,000.

This scholarship fund was created in memory of Jerome McDowell of Jackson, MS. Jerome attended High School in Jackson, where he was an avid sports fan, and talented musician. After high school, he entered Grambling University on a Band Scholarship.

Jerome was known in the community for his generosity, friendship, and dedication to his loved ones. He put others before himself. In establishing this scholarship, Jerome's family and friends wish to recognize the dedication to continued education and community service of a Bishop Manogue Catholic High School student.

The Jerome McDowell Scholarship is looking for students who demonstrate:

• Leadership potential through school, home and/or community activities.
• Outstanding character.
• A concern for others through volunteer service and/or help with family needs.
• Initiative, responsibility, and a strong work ethic through paid and/or unpaid work experiences.
• An ability to clearly communicate their strengths and goals, both verbally and in writing.
• A capacity for future academic success shown by high school GPA, coursework, extra-curricular activities.

SCHOLAR EXPECTATIONS & ENGAGEMENT

Key to recipient success is maintaining satisfactory academic progress and engagement in their campus community, athletics and family events.

All candidates must meet the following Bishop Manogue requirements for scholarship eligibility:
1. Be registered at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School.
2. Hold a minimum GPA of 3.0.
3. Family must show financial need by submitting a FACTS GRANT and Aid application.
4. Have acceptable standards of behavior as set in the Bishop Manogue Parent/Student Handbook.

Specific requirements for this scholarship are:
1. Candidates are asked to write a one page summary of how they will have an impact on BMCHS and how this
opportunity will help them make the world a better place.
2. Parents must stay current on service hours to the school as set in the Bishop Manogue Parent/Student Handbook.

If at any time during the award year the student does not maintain acceptable standards of behavior as set forth in the Bishop Manogue Parent/Student Handbook and/or a minimum GPA of 3.0, this scholarship can be withdrawn. The student does have a semester to correct the GPA and raise it back to 3.0.
