Grade 5 Elective Preferences
April 12, 2019

Dear 5th Grade Parents:

As we begin to plan for the 2019 - 2020 academic year, all students are required to complete an Elective Preference Sheet. In grade 6, students will be given a maximum of two half week electives of their choice next year. Half week electives are courses that run either Monday through Wednesday OR Thursday and Friday. The options for these courses are listed below and on the back of this sheet. Please discuss these electives courses with your child and write your preferences in the boxes located on the lower right.
*If your child has taken Intro to Voice this year, and would like to continue next year, they are eligible to select the intermediate level of that course.

We will do our best to grant your child his/her first choice; however, the scheduling of major academic subjects and the fulfillment of New York State Middle School requirements take precedence over any student selected elective course.

In addition to receiving an introductory level elective, all students will be programmed for Physical Education and Health. These courses are geared to meet New York State Programming Requirements for grade 6. Therefore, students will automatically be assigned these courses to meet this mandates.

Lastly, we request that all elective preferences be submitted to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, April 15, 2019. Additionally, upon completion of this sheet, please visit our school's website to complete the digital version of this document. Kindly, click on the link entitled, "Grade 5 Elective Preferences". If no preference sheet is submitted and the digital form is not complete, your child will be given any course that has available seats.

Sincerely,

Ms. J. Wigdorsky, Principal
Ms. M. James, Assistant Principal
