BLUE CARDS/WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK: 

Regulations about having a Blue Card apply.  If you are NOT a parent of a child currently enrolled at St Benedict's you are required to hold a Blue Card. Please present your blue card to administration at the school.

1. SIGNING IN: 

Volunteers and visitors to the school should report to administration building/office and sign-in through the computer provided. 
2. Report to the area of prearranged volunteer work. 
3. Upon completion of the volunteer task sign-out through the office.

2. VOLUNTEERS USE OF TOILETS: 

All adults, volunteers and visitors are NOT to use student toilets. Adult and disabled toilets and child change facilities are located adjacent to the undercover area.

3.  FIRE: 

The fire alarm can be raised by contacting the school office. The fire alarm is a siren that can be heard throughout the grounds. The assembly points are located in line with the soccer goal posts on the oval or in the teachers' car park depending on the location of the fire. In the event of the alarm being raised, you must go immediately to your designated assembly point to be included in the roll call.

4.  LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES: 

The lockdown signal can be raised by contacting the school office. The lockdown signal is announced on the PA system as "Hymn practice with Mrs Andrews has been cancelled". When the lockdown signal is announced, doors are locked, windows closed and lights are turned off.  If anyone is not in a room, they need to be moved to the nearest room immediately.  The all-clear signal will be given when the situation is resolved.

5.  FIRST AID: 

If at any time you require first aid assistance, you should contact the school office.

6.  REPORTING INCIDENTS: 

All accidents on the school site must be reported to a member of the leadership team, Jessica McLuskie or Catherine McWhinney before leaving the school site. A Catholic Education Diocese of Rockhampton Incident Report form for staff, volunteers and contractors will then be completed.

7.  HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES/CHEMICALS: 

Please do not bring in any chemicals or substances from home, if you need a product please speak with the office. A MSDS and risk assessment of the hazardous substances are available at the school.  It is important when using chemicals such as cleaning liquids etc, that you use the appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, appropriate masks and clothing. This information is included in the Material Safety Data Sheet.

8.  TECHNOLOGY: 

All volunteers who will be accessing technology in the school environment must read and sign a copy of the Diocesan ICT policy.

9. ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOURS OF VOLUNTEERS: *
  • Avoid any behaviour that could be reasonably interpreted as harassment, inappropriate or harmful.
  • Ensure that language or actions (including when utilising technology) cannot be interpreted as inappropriate or sexualising a relationship.
  • Never ridicule demean or intimidate a student or threaten their sense of personal safety.
  • Ensure, whenever reasonably possible, that another adult is present or close by when working with a student and avoid situations where students are or may feel isolated.
  • Avoid, whenever reasonably possible, being alone with a student or students particularly in sleeping, dressing or bathroom areas.
  • Take particular care to respect personal space and be mindful of physical contact with students.
  • Never supply or serve alcohol or any prohibited substances to a student.
  • Never smoke, consume or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while working with students.
  • Never discipline students in any circumstances. The teachers will decide on the disciplinary measures that are required.
  • Seek advice when there is any sense the relationship is uncomfortable, dysfunctional or unproductive.
  • Ensure personal appearance and presentation is clean, tidy and appropriate for your role in the school environment / activity.
  • Report any perceived breaches of professional conduct to the Principal or appropriate staff member.
