Ethical approval for ACT schools (excludes preschools, playschools, childcare)

Great news! The ACT Schools Animal Ethics Committee (ACT SAEC) has approved FrogWatch's Project Metamorph Tadpole Program for use in ACT schools. This means participating schools do not need to apply separately for ACT SAEC approval.

To participate, ACT schools must continue to meet the requirements of the Care and Use of Animals in ACT Schools Policy, including the following:

Hold a current Licence for the Use or Breeding of Animals for the Purpose of Research or Teaching.
Nominate an Animal Welfare Liaison Officer and a Supervising Teacher to oversee animal welfare and day-to-day care.
Follow all FrogWatch guidance, including the Important Program Information and Tadpole Kit Care Instruction Booklet.
Maintain a daily husbandry journal, available to school staff and ACT SAEC on request or the FrogWatch Daily Animal Health Record Sheet
Work with FrogWatch (or a veterinarian if required) to address any animal health or welfare concerns.
Report any Unexpected Adverse Events to ACT SAEC within 24 hours.
Include the program in the school's annual ACT SAEC animal use statistics return.

Returning the kit on time, clean, complete, and in good working order (see pages 4–6).
