We have amazing hosts who are so excited so welcome us onto their farm and provide support throughout our retreat, as well as a great educator, Shochet, and homesteader who will be hailing from the great state of North Carolina to support our learning. There will be a hands-on opportunity to learn about the Shechita ritual through processing chicken, learning about regenerative farming practices, a farm tour, BBQ and bonfire at night, herbalism & homesteading sessions, and there is also a chance to offer your own embodied wisdom and practice with the community.
Here is some important information about the retreat:
-The retreat will start at 12pm on Sunday, October 25 -- Tuesday Oct 27 at 11am
-This retreat is rooted in the Jewish Sacred Slaughter ritual for poultry.
-Attendees are responsible for getting to and from the retreat, but we can help organize a ride carpool share.
-There is a sliding scale cost of $25-$100 for the retreat, which will cover meals and snacks throughout the retreat. We ask everyone to help cook/prepare one meal at the retreat. On the 26th, we will BBQ chicken to eat together for dinner.
-To cover our costs for running this retreat, we ask that if you have more means, to be mindful of that and donate more generously if that is doable for you, but please donate what feels resonant and comfortable for you.
-If you'd like to buy a bird to bring home with you, there is an extra cost.
-You do not have to be Jewish to come, but would love to hear about what draws you to this retreat!
Please fill out this interest form so we can get a sense of who you are and why you want to come to this retreat, as well as a few logistical questions, and we will get back to you ASAP with more information. Thank you so much! --Ava Shaevel, Certified Shochet for Poultry
