Looking to develop your environmental leadership skills? Curious about environmental education and working with youth? Passionate about wildlife and native plants? Apply to become an EYA Peer Mentor & work alongside experienced EYA staff to run our summer programs for high school-aged youth facing barriers at Strathcona Community Gardens in the Downtown Eastside. Review the full volunteer job description at
We ask that Peer Mentors commit to supporting a minimum of...
- 1 program with EYA (1 program day weekly) for 8 weeks, or 1 condensed program (M-F for 2 weeks) in addition - 1 Wild Mind Field Trip (scheduled based on availability, Peer Mentors receive a $45 honorarium per field trip).
Ideally, we would like to see Peer Mentors return for future terms as well!
Upon completion of the program, you will gain community service hours to build your resume, and receive a certificate of mentorship from EYA.
Selected candidates will be invited for a short phone interview.
[COVID-19 UPDATE] EYA is planning for in-person summer programs with some changes to keep you and your family safe, including small group sizes, outdoor activities only, 2-metre physical distancing, face masks for everyone, no sharing of tools or gloves, frequent hand-washing, and safely-prepared pre-packaged lunches. We're carefully monitoring updates from health authorities - if it isn’t possible to run in-person programs, we will run virtual programs instead.
Are you able to attend the free Peer Mentor training on Friday July 10, 2020 (10:30am-4:30pm)?
What program(s) can you commit to a Peer Mentor? (select all that apply)
