We all have a role in creating stories that reflect the diversity of the world in which we live. To that end, and in addition to striving for more diversity in my writing, I pledge to include a statement, where appropriate, alongside the character descriptions in my work to encourage diverse casting.

#CreateDiversity is an initiative from the Equity Diversity Committee bringing together writers and performers as advocates for diverse casting. Writers pledge to support diversity in the content of their writing and in casting their work where a character’s ethnic or cultural background, age, gender, sexuality or disability need not be specified. This is an ongoing platform which was launched at Playwriting Australia’s National Play Festival in July 2015. Playwriting Australia is a proud supporter and will be integrating this pledge into its ongoing application procedures. If you would like to support of this campaign, sign the pledge or contact us to add your organisation to the growing call for diversity on our Australian stages and screens. This initiative is proudly supported by Playwriting Australia (PWA), the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) and Kultour.
