or read the text below:
The Conservation Paleobiology Network (CPN) Student Slack group was created as a platform for student members to connect with others in the network, initiate and contribute to discussions on topics of interest, participate in activities led by the Student Panel, and share relevant resources and announcements. We strive to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful community that values the diverse perspectives and experiences of all members. Harassment or disrespectful behaviours of any kind will not be tolerated. By joining this open-access Slack community, you agree to adhere to the following code of conduct at all times. CPN Student Panel Members will enforce this code as necessary to ensure that all participants feel welcome, and we reserve the right to remove those who are found to be negatively contributing to this safe space. As student members of the CPN, we are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within our own science, and we extend this commitment to the Slack group and conversations within.
In upholding an informative, insightful, communicative, and inclusive Slack community, we value the participation and voices of diverse scientists from a range of backgrounds, disciplines, and experiences. Accordingly, this community is committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for everyone. Participants are expected to treat one another with respect and dignity regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, age, immigration status, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion (or lack thereof), socioeconomic background, educational background, career stage, career trajectory, or scientific opinions.
Discussions should be respectful and constructive. Any comments or behaviours that may reasonably be assumed to have the effect of creating, contributing to, or maintaining an environment that is hostile toward or damaging to a person or group are prohibited. This code of conduct also extends to any related social media posts that may derive from or contribute to Slack community conversations.
-Treat others with respect and dignity.
-Be considerate, collegial, and collaborative.
-Communicate openly, with civil attitudes, critiquing ideas rather than individuals.
-Value that each person brings something to the table.
-Encourage participation from everyone.
Unacceptable behaviour includes, but is not limited to:
-Do not engage in harassment, intimidation, bullying, or discrimination in any form.
-Do not make verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, or national origin.
-Do not display nudity and/or sexual images in any Slack media.
-Do not make real or implied threats of physical, professional, or financial harm.
-Do not stalk (in person or virtually) any Slack members.
-Do not disrupt Slack community conversations just for your own personal gain.
-Do not record or take photos of any part of these conversations without appropriate approval from those members involved.
Participants asked to stop engaging in prohibited behaviour(s) are expected to comply immediately. Misconduct will be acted upon in two steps, depending on the severity of the offense: 1) The offender will receive a warning for their behaviour and will be asked to apologize to the victim, and 2) If an incident arises again, the offender will be removed from the CPN Student Slack community and allegations of misconduct will be reported to the CPN leadership for further investigation and sanctions. Serious violations will lead to immediate expulsion.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the CPN Student Panel via students.cpn [at] gmail [dot] com, or send a message directly to one of the CPN Student Panel Members on Slack.
Ultimately, please remember why we are here: to network, diversify our knowledge, meet new people, and above all, to enjoy science and conservation!
