Illuminate offers engaging and dynamic workshops presented by well-trained students and/or professional staff. We appreciate the opportunity to talk with students, staff, and faculty about topics that directly influence their academic and personal success. Illuminate believes in using the power of prevention education to promote healthy relationships and sexuality by addressing the underlying social determinants of violence to create equal and respectful relationships.

Most workshops require a minimum of 50 minutes (unless otherwise noted) and are offered year-round. Please fill out this form to schedule a workshop.

Which workshop are you interested in? *

Active Bystander: Engaging with Violence and Oppression: This workshop builds skills to take action against oppressive/harmful behaviors or policies. Participants will be led through discussions about culture and socialization and options for actions. After discussing safety considerations, participants will have the opportunity to hone their new skills with scenario practice.

How to Hook Up: A Consent Workshop: This workshop provides students with the education, skills, and the opportunity to understand and practice consent in a supportive space. Participants will discuss the dynamics of consent, both during sex and during everyday interactions.

Healthy Relationships: Relationships with others play an integral role in individual well-being and overall feelings of safety and connectedness to the broader campus community. Interpersonal relationships take various forms from family, friends, classmates, professors, roommates, and coworkers to intimate and romantic partnerships. Engaging in safe and supportive relationships with others contributes to academic success, health, and well-being. This engaging workshop will help students feel confident, identify healthy and unhealthy relationship characteristics, understand personal boundaries, negotiating consent, and navigate challenging conversations.

IPV101: This interactive workshop provides an overview of all aspects of intimate partner violence. Activities will help students identify an abusive relationship's dynamics and make connections between the macro and micro-level influences on violence. Students will explore issues of consent, healthy relationships, and how to help a friend.

Time’s up for Cancel Culture: This workshop will examine the dynamics of "cancel culture." We will begin by defining "cancel culture" and will then pull apart the layers of how this practice ultimately fails to create justice in social movements. We will use discussion, group activities, and individual reflection to develop strategies for transforming culture in new and creative ways.

Social Justice Ego: Connection and Community-Building Through Radical Vulnerability-Equity and inclusion in education begin with a social justice framework that views socialization as the foundation of identity. Content that scrutinizes socialization can challenge participants' sense of self, pushing them beyond their capacity to engage. This workshop offers candid discussions about lessons learned through vulnerability in social justice education. We will explore the significance of our own learning to engage participants in content with decreased defensiveness and increased humility. Attendees will build a reflective practice that moves towards transformative justice over the protection of ego.
