Artists may apply for either 1) Commission of $1000 in support of a youth project in NYC or2) Commission of $1000 plus residency: Residency time available Saturday during the day, max. 3 hour time slot, for 8 weeks (Feb 23 - April 13) in Downtown Art's theater
- Youth is defined as young people between the ages of 10 to 24 years old. Project may serve a specific age group, such as young adults ages 19-24 or pre teens ages 10-12. - Projects must include a minimum of 8 youth participants.- Workshops must have a minimum of 8 sessions, 2 hours each. Projects should culminate in a public showing or share.- Project participants should build artistic skills over the course of the project.- Project leaders are responsible for recruiting youth participants. Downtown Art will support their efforts.
Projects must address a social justice issue. Examples include projects addressing issues such as immigration, voting rights, racial and/or gender equity, climate change, neighborhood displacement, and criminal justice reform.
Existing youth ensembles may apply, however priority will be given to proposals which do not receive any significant support from a nonprofit organization, school, or other institution.
The application requests a detailed project description, including experience working with youth, and history with combining arts and activism, skill building plan, youth recruitment plan, project leader biographies, plus two work samples.
