I’m writing a book provisionally* titled "The Craft Community: Conversations with Crafters of Color," which will be published by Roost Books in 2020. The book will highlight women of color who actively engage in fiber arts and crafts (including – but not limited to – embroidery, knitting, sewing, weaving, bead work). This book will feature the voices of women of color of all ages and skill levels, from beginning hobbyists to established professionals. We’re a large and mighty force, but are often left out of mainstream dialogues about our crafts. This book seeks to remedy that by showing the breadth and diversity of our communities within the US and Canada. I had considered expanding the scope of this book beyond these countries, but given this is the part of the world where I reside and primarily work, I feel it’s best for me to concentrate on this region (and stay in my lane!).
If you’re a woman of color who engages in at least one fiber art or craft, and who lives in Canada or the US, I’d like to hear from you, and potentially include your responses to the following survey questions in this book. Completing the survey will take 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on how many questions you choose to answer. To thank you for your time and thoughtfulness, I’ll send an enamel pin – exclusive only to book contributors – to everyone who completes at least 8 of the free response survey questions in Section 2. Pins will ship in the summer of 2020.
This survey will close on June 5, 2019.
Thank you in advance for your contribution!
*"provisionally," because this title will change as I work on the book.
