Westbrook School Volunteer Form
Volunteers are needed and welcomed throughout the year. Please complete the following form.

Welcome to all Westbrook families new and old for the 2018-2019 school year! Westbrook families form the true definition of community by coming together to support and assist the school in making our "biggest little school" such a wonderful place to send our children. We are always looking for volunteers to help in a variety of areas and I know this year we will continue to have parents graciously donate their time. Please consider coming on board to help lighten the load and be a part of the continued success of Westbrook. Consider volunteering in new areas, meet some new and old parents to the school, and reap the rewards of volunteering within your child(s) school!

Parent volunteers are a very important part of our school community!  All volunteers are required to submit a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check before being permitted to volunteer (or participate in classroom events/activities). A Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check application is available in the office.  This form maybe required when requesting requesting a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check from your local RCMP.

Please note that it may take several weeks for Criminal Checks to be processed so do not delay with submitting your application.

When completed, the office needs to see the original, take a copy and will retain the copy on file for 5 years.  However, each year an Annual Statutory Declaration form will need to be completed.

Many of you have completed all of the steps above for the Walk-a-thon For all parents/volunteers that work with our students in the school we also require a Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure Undertaking form to be completed prior to volunteering. This can be completed/or brought to the school the first time you volunteer in the building this year.
It is preferred that you complete your Volunteer form online, but if you would prefer a paper form, please stop by the office.

Volunteer Information
Westbrook School Staff and Volunteer Coordinator would like to welcome you and your family to join in the rewarding experience of volunteering. Listed below are the main areas where volunteers are required. There is a brief explanation and estimated time commitment for each.
Classroom Volunteer Coordinator
Each classroom will require a Class Volunteer Coordinator who will meet or communicate (email/phone) with the teacher as needed and be responsible for organizing the volunteer schedule for the teacher. Each teacher and classroom requires different levels of volunteering and thus time commitment is varied.
Classroom Volunteer
The assistance required in the classroom varies with each teacher and grade; however, teachers welcome any help you can give. Further, if you have any special talents that you would be willing to share with the teachers and children, i.e. Art, Drama, Music, etc. Usually requires half a day commitment at a time. A parent who is unable to come into the classroom but would still like to participate in helping the teacher may indicate this. Assisting from home may be possible in areas such as phoning, organizing book orders, arranging and keeping track of parents who have helped out on field trips.
Assisting in the Library
Commitment of 2 or 3 hours at a time, for helping with processing material, filing and shelving.
Hot Lunch Coordinator
This is a position that requires selecting and overseeing the food companies in bringing in hot lunches for the students each month. The Hot Lunch Coordinator meets with the various vendors to choose the food items. It includes organizing the order forms and having parent volunteers involved, if required.
Hot Lunch Volunteer
First Tuesday of every month helping hand out lunches to classrooms. Time commitment is roughly 45 min.
Christmas Activities
This very important event requires varying assistance from year to year. Each Classroom Volunteer Coordinator can assist their teacher with arranging the volunteers required for their program. (i.e. set construction, backdrops, sewing, painting, etc)
Welcome Back BBQ or Year End BBQ
Held in September and June. Many hands are needed to purchase food, set-up, cook, and clean-up
School Council
All parents are members of school council, and are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings. Meetings are held half the time in the mornings during school hours and half the time in the evenings. Meetings are usually 2 hours in length and the notice/agenda is sent home as a reminder a few days prior to the meeting. Council meetings are a great way to volunteer your time, as many parents find regular commitment to volunteering during the day impossible. It will keep you informed as to what is happening in your child’s school.
Walk-a-thon (September)
Requires a large number of volunteers (information will be provided in near future). Classroom Volunteer Coordinator provides assistance to the teachers for the number of volunteers required. Usually a full day commitment, although some volunteers are required just over the lunch hour.
Walk-a-thon Co-Chair
Opportunity to be an important part of Westbrook School's main fundraiser. Working along side co-chair, you will apply for permits, communicate with news media, work with food coordinator, Checklists and hand over training will be provided.
School Fair
Requires a large number of volunteers (information to be provided later in the year).
For coaching or assistant coaching of inter-school competitions. Parents willing to help out, but unfamiliar with the sport can still partake. All parents who coach or help out must complete the “Respect in Sport Course" prior to working with students. This course is completed online and can be arranged through the school.
If you would like to help coach please list sport(s)

There is also a grant writing team within F.O.W that focuses on writing grants for all areas of need within the school.
Office Volunteer
Help is needed at the front office. We could use regular volunteers to answer phones and address student’s needs for an hour once or twice a week. We can also use temporary office assistance for different occasions. If you are interested at helping out in either capacity or have any questions please contact Corina Dixon for more information at 403-932-5443.
