Thanks for your interest in participating as a mentor in the Green Schools Quest: A Project-Based Challenge!

Through the Green Schools Quest, we hope to empower students and communities to be good stewards of their own environments, while facilitating a connection between the green building/sustainability professional community and younger generations.

Please review the mentor responsibilities, and complete the registration form below as thoroughly as possible. The information that you provide will help our team make the best mentor-school partner assignments.

The Green Schools Quest is part of Green Apple Day of Service, a global initiative spearheaded by USGBC's Center for Green Schools. Check out www.mygreenapple.org for more information about Green Apple Day of Service.

Green Mentor Responsibilities
• Provide sustainability expertise and guidance at your assigned school.
• Commit to a minimum of 4-6 hours per month of personal time mentoring within assigned school beginning October 2019 and concluding mid-March 2020.
• Meet with the school Green Team at least twice per month.
• Help students and their team Sponsor (a minimum of one faculty/staff/parent per team will assist as team Sponsor) green their schools for little or no cost.
• Provide guidance on project selection, execution, establishment of metrics and recording impact.
• Assist with documentation and preparation of final submission (such as video or PowerPoint).
• Help assigned school compete for special recognition in the Green Schools Quest.
• Attend one Green Mentor training prior to visiting your assigned school.
• Submit two progress reports via a quick online survey during the course of the Green Schools Quest.
• Consider attending a Mentor Meet Up during the course of the Quest to meet and exchange ideas with fellow mentors.
• Mentors must be a member of USGBC-MGC. USGBC-MGC is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization. Membership is open to all individuals and available in a variety of levels starting at the $35/year Supporter level. 2019-20 Timeline
April 2019 – Registration opens for schools & mentors
August 31, 2019 – Deadline for mentors to register
September 15, 2019 – Deadline for schools to register
October 2019 – March 15, 2020 – Participating schools work with their Green Mentors to pursue a sustainability project
March 15, 2020 – Conclude the 2019-20 Green Schools Quest
April 2020 – Winners announced at the 13th Annual Green Schools Event
Mid-April-May 2020 – Awards presented

Mentor Training
USGBC-MGC will host two mentor trainings on the dates listed below. MENTORS NEED TO ATTEND ONE OF THESE TRAININGS. Trainings will be held at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Commerce Bank Center for Science Education, 4651 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63110.
