Girls Build LA 2016-17 Mentor Application
In 2015, women held 25% of all STEM occupations; Latinas and Black women held only 1% and 3% of these jobs, respectively. Early exposure to STEM content, and building skills like critical analysis and project management are critical in closing the gender gap in STEM fields and the economy at large. Girls Build LA is a three year initiative that challenges young women from public middle and high schools in LA County to use STEAM principles and 21st Century learning skills to effect social change. Girls Build LA activates young women to engage the issues they care about now and prepares them to solve problems of tomorrow.

Thank you for your interest in mentoring one of our Girls Build LA teams! This survey will be short and painless. As soon as we have a match we will put you directly in touch with your team.

As a mentor, we ask that you commit to visiting your team at least once in person, and choose two times to communicate with your group by conference call, webinar or online hangout. Of course you are invited to visit more than once, but we understand that schedules get busy, and this might not be possible. You are also free to support your team remotely by reviewing their project proposal, helping with presentations, or just answering questions via email.

Once we have a match recommendation we will put you in touch with the project coordinator for a Girls Build LA team. The project coordinator is a teacher, or school site staff person that is leading the team of girls. They will work with you to schedule a time to meet with their team. Good luck and thank you for your commitment to young women in Los Angeles!
