TNC Volunteering Sign-up
Date & Time: Saturday, April 16th daytrip
Location: Columbia Dam, NJ

We will help remove tree protections (tubes/stakes) from mature trees at a reforestation site in the former impoundment of the Columbia dam on the Paulins Kill. Before the Columbia dam was removed in 2018 by TNC and partners, this site was completely underwater for about 110 years. Post dam removal, TNC planted over 15,000 trees in the former impoundment to help stabilize the banks, provide habitat, and eventually grow to shade the river. After a lunch break, we’ll take a walking tour of the site and discuss the benefits and logistics of dam removal as well as TNC’s water quality monitoring efforts.
