Truth and (Re)conciliation is a top priority for the University of Victoria, for Canadians, and Indigenous Peoples. Engineers and
Professionals have a role to play in Truth and (Re)conciliation and it is vital
to understand the Truth, the true state of Communities, the complexities of
working with Community, and hear what it is like to be a First Nations, Métis, or
Inuit at the University of Victoria and within Canada. We will use the
foundation of Truth to appreciate Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing, and
relating and touch upon two-eyed seeing as a framework and discuss
decolonization. We will ideate how to be changemakers at work, for our spaces
and places, and in our own attitudes and behaviours. You will learn what Truth and Reconciliation looks like in engineering, in teaching engineering, and in building trusted research and Community relationships. We will also learn how to
write meaningful land acknowledgements, about Elder / Knowledge Keeper
protocol, how to start and maintain trusted and strong relationships. We will also sit in Circle.
Each session builds off the previous sessions and it is advised you attend or watch all sessions in order.
Guest speakers will be invited from time to time.
