Pitch a Fluid Movement Water Ballet!

We wanna hear your wackiest! your waviest! your biggest dream for a Fluid Movement water ballet!

You do not need a complete script, a production plan, or a fully formed show. We are looking for an idea that you are excited about and that you really want to see become a real, live show.

What are we looking for in a pitch?

  • An idea that can carry a whole show: swimming scenes, stage elements, and a big ol finale
  • Speaks to Fluid Movement's special spice of Baltimore pride and joyous summer fun

  • Is a theme that would energize the community to help bring it to life

What happens after you submit?

This year, we're trying something new.

A Water Ballet Artistic Steering Committee made up of Fluid Movement artists and community members will review the pitches and identify ideas that they think are worth developing further for next year's water ballet. People pitching ideas are not barred from sitting on the Water Ballet Artistic Steering Committee, but they must recuse themselves from any discussions involving their own pitches.

Selected pitch authors will then have the opportunity to work with committee members and other Fluid Movement artists to strengthen and expand their ideas into concepts ready to share with the wider Fluid Movement community at a Water Ballet Pitch Showcase in January.

The showcase is not a public vote, and it does not determine the next water ballet. It is an opportunity for creators to share their exciting ideas, and we are hoping this showcase allows for these ideas to find people that want to help make them reality.

After the showcase, the committee and Fluid Movement's Artistic Director will review the featured pitches, and the committee will advise the Artistic Director on the final selection.

If you want to see the proposed timeline for the show pitch to selection, you can do that here

A note about making the show

Fluid Movement is a volunteer-powered organization. We don't have the capacity to take an idea from a pitch form all the way to a finished water ballet without people willing to help make it happen.

You do not need to have a production team assembled, and you do not need to know exactly what role you would take. This process is intended to help creators learn what they need to make their idea happen and find collaborators to work with them along the way.

That said, we'd still like to know how you (or your co-creators) might want to be part of making it happen.

Pitch submissions are open through November 8.
