University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase
The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Association of American Universities (AAU), in partnership with VentureWell and the National Academy of Inventors, will host the inaugural “University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase,” highlighting university affiliated startup businesses on Monday, November 13 & Tuesday, November 14 during the APLU Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

This showcase will promote the importance of federally-funded university research and demonstrate how university-led entrepreneurial engagement contributes to the innovation economy. Selected university-affiliated startups will have the opportunity to participate in an afternoon poster session and reception at the APLU Annual Meeting on November 13. On November 14, these startups will be featured in an evening Capitol Hill Exhibition and Reception in the Rayburn Foyer.

Applications are due by September 22 and must be submitted via this form. In order to be considered, startups must be nominated by a APLU or AAU institution and demonstrate a connection to federally-funded university research. Universities can nominate multiple startups. The participation fee is $500 per team and will be due upon notification of acceptance for the showcase. Participants will be fully responsible for exhibit and travel expenses.

Preference will be given to startups affiliated with APLU Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) Universities and/or those which are seeking to advance innovative new technologies with the potential for significant economic or societal impact. Preference will also be given to student led or involved startups. APLU and AAU will also seek to maximize institutional and disciplinary diversity and geographic representation of the participating startups.

The designated contacts will be notified of the acceptance of their nomination by September 29.

APLU and AAU strongly encourage applications to be submitted in consultation with the nominating institutions’ government affairs/federal relations offices.
