HIGHLIGHTS
What are some current practices and opportunities within your experience that fit in with the definition and commitment statements?

Student Voice is an intentional process where young people participate in and influence the decisions that improve their educational experience.

Commitment Statements:

Shift in power. There is an intentional shift in dynamic from adult-centric decision-making towards a collaborative model where students are empowered to co-create environments and experiences.

Voices matter. Equity requires creating safe, inclusive spaces for every student to be heard and valued, both individually and collectively, especially those whose voices have been historically or currently marginalized.

Listening leads to action. Authentic student voice goes beyond surveys and discussions; it leads to visible changes in practice and culture.

Student voice drives improvement. Students’ experiences are essential for shaping effective instructional improvements, student engagement, policy, communication, and school climate.

Trust is essential and needed. This requires effective communication, willingness to understand perspectives, appreciation of vulnerability, and commitment to learning and growing together. Adults and students believe each has their best interest at heart.
