University Catholic Leadership Board Application

University Catholic Boards are comprised of students who coordinate efforts which further the mission of Jesus Christ, His Catholic Church, and University Catholic on their respective campuses. The chaplain works closely with student boards, as they have entrusted themselves to him as their spiritual father and shepherd. In all matters regarding University Catholic, the Frassati House, and the care of souls for whom he is responsible, the Chaplain has ultimate executive authority. In this regard, the student boards have a consultative (advisory) role. [This is how all parishes, dioceses, and the Universal Church are governed.] However, the Chaplain chooses to entrust the boards with deciding the best ways to evangelize their campuses. A board focuses on evangelizing their own campus, but with a constant concern for the entire UCat community. Often, the best way to strengthen a Catholic community is to integrate it with the larger Catholic community in Nashville, and even around the world.

Board members are expected to practice their Catholic faith through regular prayer and sacraments. Others should see in them an example of humble Christian discipleship by their daily lives and visible presence within the UCat community (especially at UCat Masses, Sunday Supper, and major UCat events). Board members must regularly attend weekly board meetings and be willing to “go the extra mile.”

University Catholic at Vanderbilt: Board Positions

As a model, having two Co-Presidents allows for greater flexibility and cooperation within the Board. Co-presidents work together to accomplish their responsibilities. A traditional President/Vice Pres. Model, where responsibilities are more clearly assigned, is always possible if circumstances make it a better option.

President(s): “The face” of University Catholic who models servant leadership for the rest of the board. The president sets the agenda and runs board meetings, oversees events, and upholds the vision of UCat. The president often makes announcements at the 9pm Mass and is present at UCat events. The president meets regularly with the Director of Campus Ministry to review the UCat calendar and coordinate efforts with the larger UCat community.

[Vice-President:] Also, serves as liaison between the Pillar Heads and the UCat Board, communicating with each pillar on a weekly basis. The president is responsible for maintaining/updating the google drive.

Treasurer/Facilities: The treasurer keeps accounts of Mass offertory collections and handles weekly deposits for UCat. They ensure that the Frassati House is well-maintained and take care of shared resources like the kitchen and sound system.

Internal Secretary: Manages UCat Board's internal affairs. They record notes at meetings, organize UCat's shared files, and coordinate room reservations.

External Secretary: Handles UCat's communications. They send out weekly emails, maintain UCat's presence on social media, and support pillar heads in advertising events.
