The LANG Initiative Sign-up– Spring 2021
Hello, and welcome to the LANG Initiative sign-up! If you are a returning translator or faculty lead, thank you for your hard work and we look forward to continuing our work with you. If you are new to the LANG Initiative, welcome to the team! Currently we are looking for native Chinese and Spanish speakers, but in the future we plan to expand our teams to include other languages spoken on campus.
The LANG Initiative (Language Accessibility of Northeastern Guidelines) is a coalition of Northeastern University students and faculty with the goal of translating vital university administrative and emergency websites into the major languages spoken on campus. Through language accessibility, we aim to provide all Northeastern students and their families with the resources to make informed decisions concerning on-campus attendance, emergency situations, and student’s mental and physical well-being.
Working groups are composed of Northeastern students who are fluent speakers in their respective language. After two rounds of revisions, a fluent faculty member will act as an editor to issue a final approval of the translated information. The time commitment is expected to be 1-2 hours per week, but we understand that current events may make your schedule unpredictable. Thus, this number is flexible– any participation from you will be appreciated!
We already have a working website with our translation (
nulang.org
) and are partnered with Northeastern University to translate future outgoing announcements which will be placed on the official Northeastern website!
