The vital perspective people of color provide is missing from public discourse on peace, security, and foreign policy. To address this structural weakness, Women of Color Advancing Peace, Security and Conflict Transformation (WCAPS) is partnering with ReThink Media, a non-profit communications organization, to offer a webinar series available to college seniors, graduate students, and young adults working in peace & security. Both organizations recently partnered on a 2-day media training for early and mid-career women of color in the Washington, DC area.
The webinars will cover the following topics:
Networking & Informational InterviewsCreating your online professional profileEngaging with journalists on TwitterWriting op-edsUnderstanding what makes “news”Getting media coverage for your scholarly paper, research report, or study
The sessions, which will be one hour long once a month, will start in late January 2019. To register, interested individuals must complete a brief application and commit to attending all six webinars, as lessons will build off of each other. A WCAPS ReThink Media certificate of completion will be given to each participant at the end of the six webinars. Applications must be submitted by December 14th.
