2017-18 Junior Program Application
Program Schedule: Monday September 18, 2017 through Sunday April 29, 2018
36 Hours of Training*
Program includes 28 one hour weekly sessions and 4 two-hour Weekend Junior Clinics. (Weekend Junior Clinics are held at Sutton East Tennis Saturdays and Sundays 2-4pm. Once enrolled in the program call 212-751-3452 to sign up for a session.) *High Performance registration includes 50 hours of training (Twenty-eight 1.5 hour weekly sessions and 4 two-hour High Performance weekend training clinics...see details below)
Program Descriptions

RED BALL 1: Ages 5-7 (Beginner & Advanced Beginner)

Mon-Fri 3:30, 4:00, 4:30pm; Mon/Weds 5pm; Sat 9,10,11,Noon & 1pm

This program follows the mandated USTA 10 and Under Tennis pathway system which uses age/skill appropriate equipment, lower pressure red dot balls and 36’ courts so that young kids can learn and play the game quickly and develop professional style skills. Curriculum is designed so that children will learn and practice all stroke fundamentals, court positioning, develop a serve, rally and begin point play. Max 4:1 student/instructor ratio.


RED BALL 2: Ages 6-8 (Intermediate)

Mon-Fri 3:30, 4:00, 4:30pm; Mon/Weds 5pm, Sat 9,10,11,Noon & 1pm

This program follows the mandated USTA 10 and Under Tennis pathway system which uses age/skill appropriate equipment, lower pressure red dot balls and 36’ courts so that young kids can learn and play the game quickly and develop professional style skills. Curriculum is designed so that kids will learn more advanced stroke technique, begin to use spin, develop longer rallies with some directional control, a more advanced serve, develop net play and proper scoring. 4:1 student/instructor ratio.


ORANGE BALL 1: Ages 7-9 (Beginner-Low Intermediate)

Mon-Fri 3:30, 4:00, 4:30pm; Tues/Thurs 5pm; Sat 9,10,11,Noon & 1pm

This program follows the mandated USTA 10 and Under Tennis pathway system which uses age/skill appropriate equipment, lower pressure orange dot balls and 60’ courts so that young kids can learn and play the game quickly and develop professional style skills. Curriculum is designed so that kids will learn more advanced stroke technique, use spin, combine shots together with purpose, serve with spin and direction, approach the net to use volleys, overheads and more advanced point play...all while using the faster orange dot ball and covering a larger court. Max 4:1 student/instructor ratio.


ORANGE BALL 2: Ages 7-10 (Intermediate-Advanced)

Mon-Fri 3:30, 4:00, 4:30pm; Tues/Thurs 5pm; Sat 9,10,11,Noon & 1pm

This program follows the mandated USTA 10 and Under Tennis pathway system which uses age/skill appropriate equipment, lower pressure orange dot balls and 60’ courts so that young kids can learn and play the game quickly and develop professional style skills. Curriculum is designed so that kids will prepare for competitive success. Skills covered are shaping groundstrokes and developing patterns, developing professional style footwork, serve with different speeds and spin, selecting shots, and recognizing & managing offensive, neutral and defensive situations...all while using the faster orange dot ball and covering a larger court. Max 4:1 student/instructor ratio.


GREEN BALL: ages 9-11 (All Levels)

Mon-Fri 4:00, 5:00pm; Sat 9,10,11,Noon & 1pm

This program follows the mandated USTA Junior Pathway and will be conducted on 78’ (full) courts with lower pressure green dot balls. Curriculum will vary based on experience and ability, with the goal to develop or refine technique and provide players with the tools to meet their goals. Groupings will be created with consideration of playing ability and age and players will utilize faster green dot balls. Emphasis will be placed on skills application in live ball (point play) situations.

YELLOW BALL: ages 12 and up (All Levels):

Mon-Fri 4:00, 5:00pm; Sat 9,10,11,Noon & 1pm

This program follows the mandated USTA Junior Pathway and will be conducted on 78’ (full) courts with full pressure yellow balls. Curriculum will vary based on experience and ability, with the goal to develop or refine technique and provide players with the tools to meet their goals. Emphasis will be placed on skills application in live ball (point play) situations.

Mon/Thurs/Fri 5:30-7:00pm

This program is for kids at a higher skill level who are preparing for competition using faster green dot balls. Acceptance is subject to approval by the Junior Directors. Curriculum includes advanced technical and tactical skills and is for goal oriented competitive players. Program includes 50 hours of training.


YELLOW BALL HIGH PERFORMANCE: ages 12 and up (Advanced Only)

Tues/Weds/Thurs/Fri 5:30-7:00pm

This program is for kids at a higher skill level who are preparing for competition using full pressure yellow balls. Acceptance is subject to approval by the Junior Directors. Curriculum includes advanced technical and tactical skills, and is for goal oriented competitive players. Program includes 50 hours of training.

5. Classes must be made up within the current session. (by April 29, 2018)
6. Maximum 4:1 student/teacher ratio for weekly classes. If group is less than 5 children then one instructor will be assigned.
