Purpose and Selection
The Jessamine County Athletic Achievement Award is a means of recognizing, preserving, and promoting the legacy of interscholastic athletics in Jessamine County. This award honors individuals that have made extraordinary contributions and/or had worthy accomplishments in Jessamine County high school athletics.  

The Jessamine County Athletic Achievement Award will be governed by the Jessamine County Athletic Advisory Council, which is under the control of the Superintendent and Board of Education.  The Council includes equal representation from East and West High Schools, including community members from both school areas.  

The selection process will be chaired by the District Athletic Directors.  The Deputy Superintendent is an ex-officio member of the Council.  The Council will submit recommended award recipient names to the Board of Education for final approval.

Nomination Categories
Athlete: A former high school athlete whose athletic achievements in Jessamine County were extraordinary and merit recognition. The athlete shall have completed high school at least five (5) years prior to being eligible for nomination.

Coach: A current or former high school coach whose accomplishments in Jessamine County athletics merit recognition.  Former coaches shall have been inactive as a coach for a minimum of three school years.  

Contributor: An individual who has made outstanding contributions to athletics in some capacity other than as an athlete or coach, including such avenues as community athletic involvement/support, athletic administration, sports medicine, and sports media.

Requirements for Nomination
In order to maintain the integrity of the selection process, the following criteria are established for nominations:
Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character. All nominees will be judged on their significant and/or long term contributions to athletics in Jessamine County.

Nominees whose careers ended 5 or more years ago and who are deceased will be considered against the accomplishments of their contemporaries, as much as is possible. It is suggested that additional support material be included, such as letters from individuals who had some involvement with the nominee.

Nomination Procedures
The following guidelines shall be utilized for nominations:

The official nomination form approved by the Superintendent and Jessamine County Board of Education is available on the Jessamine County website or from the District Athletic Directors. *Nominations for selection are to be submitted by April 29 of each year.

Any nomination received which does not contain current address and contact information for the nominee (or family if deceased) will not be considered.

In addition to the approved nomination form, the following should be submitted for a nominee to be considered:
No more than five letters of recommendation from both the person making the nomination and others who support the nominee and describe the nominee’s athletic achievement.

A limited number of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, copies of score books, and statistics may be included to help substantiate the accomplishments and contributions of the nominee. These materials should focus on high school accomplishments and contributions and be listed in chronological order.

A 5x7 photograph, preferably black and white, should be submitted with the nomination form or emailed to  mark.miracle@jessamine.kyschools.us or charlie.owens2@jessamine.kyschools.us
