The response doesn't require just IBCLCs for support. Peer counselors, doulas, and ordinary volunteers are all essential to helping families during this crisis. These volunteers can quickly learn how to mitigate risks and provide critical assistance in areas such as mixing and feeding formula safely, setting up bottle washing stations in shelters, and more.

While the Red Cross staff are aware of the needs, volunteers on the ground often just need some simple instructions. Printing out the CDC Infant Feeding in Emergencies sheets for all shelters can be incredibly helpful in guiding them.

Additionally, please help us identify where families with infants and pregnant people are located, especially in hotels and transitional housing, to offer tailored support. Mobile units in areas like Charlotte or other places where families have been evacuated could make a significant difference by providing direct support.
