Volunteer Opportunities at the Spiritual Life Center
Please review the following list to see where you would like to apply your gifts & talents as a Volunteer at the Center. Mark all that apply.
Wait tables for various groups who have a banquet (serving times vary by group)
Lunch server (approx. 11 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Dinner server (approx. 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.)
Be present in bookstore, become familiar with inventory, answer guest's questions and process sales.
Use your artistic talent to further beautify the Center by decorating for various seasons.
Dining Room Host or Hostess
Help guests to their table, assist in clearing tables, wipe down tables and vacuum carpet after meals
Lunch Hour Host
Dinner Hour Host
General Center Host or Hostess
Welcome guests as they arrive (usually Friday nights, but some weekdays)
Show guests to their rooms
Be present during a retreat or conference to assist in any need necessary
Prepare guest rooms (as needed). We often have back-to-back groups and need help in cleaning rooms for the new group.
Deep cleaning of guest rooms (ongoing). Includes: vacuuming under furniture, floor board cleaning, walls & ceiling dusting, etc.
Update / Change information folders in bedrooms for each group.
Dusting / Cleaning areas (weekly). Includes Rock Chapel, Main Chapel and lounge areas, etc.
Landscaping (seasonal and as needed)
Brush & leaf removal
Flower & plant care
Tree & brush pruning around the Center
Maintenance of St. John the Baptist Wilderness area--North of the Center. Includes: keeping walking trails clear, trimming of trees, cleaning of any trash, etc.
Keeping an eye on the ponds and woods for safety and nuisance concerns (perhaps a daily walk in the area).
Categorizing and shelving new books
Care of existing volumes
Housekeeping of library room
Maintenance - Building
Provide music for daily Masses
Provide music / cantor for retreat /conference prayer services or liturgy of the hours
Gather and take recycle paper to bin (weekly)
General front office hospitality and aide
Greet guests at the front desk
Help promote the Center within your parish
Restock SLC brochures at your church
Weekend Volunteer (primarily daytime hours)
Greet visitors upon arrival and attend to their needs
Focus on hospitality
Give Audio/Visual and technology help to group leaders
Weekend Resident Volunteer (possibly overnight; duties and hours vary by the weekend)
Serve as a "Martha" during private or small group retreats. Your main purpose is to assist the Center director, presenter, staff hostess, and guests with whatever is needed
Be available to help guests during check-in and check-out times
Act as host or hostess and help in the dining room
Handle any weekend emergencies and be "on call" for guests during night hours
Be aware of location and schedule of each group so you can assist where necessary
Enjoy, during your free time, all or part of the retreats and programs that are taking place!
