Jammyland Cocktail Bar & Reggae Kitchen is expanding hours and seeking bartenders, bar backs, servers and hosts to be the cornerstone of the iriest place on earth. As its name suggests, Jammyland is proud to join the LV cocktail scene, offering refined drinks in a shanty chic converted garage with dual patios in the heart of Antique Alley. Its owners spent their careers cherry-picking wisdom and technique with the best mentors possible. Folks like Dale Degroff, Tony Abou-Ganim, Julie Reiner, and Sam Ross. As a result, their current work led Food&Wine to declare, "The drinks at [Restaurant of the Year recipient, Here's Looking At You] are a big part of the draw. Booze visionaries Allan Katz and Danielle Crouch have devised the best new cocktail program in America." At Jammyland, we are seeking nothing less than a sequel to that success.
Jammyland is named after our favorite bygone NYC record shop where incredible bands practiced and recorded in the basement. When it closed in 2008, we vowed to one day create a worthy homage. Nobody knew as much about reggae as Ira, Malcolm, and their crew. Yet they never condescended to a customer. Every guest had their taste assessed and left with a record they were sure to love. It inspired the way we work. Via our #genuinehospitality ethos, we aim to do the same with drinking and dining.
Our trade can be a life-long endeavor with endless learning opportunities. We like it that way. At Jammyland you will be challenged to be precise, fast, friendly, and curious. If we're doing our job, you're creating the tastiest drinks you've ever made. To prepare you for the ride, you'll need to pass tests throughout a comprehensive two weeks of bar training covering every category of spirits and cocktails. Homework and deeper dives will be continual. We believe there are no weak links in a proper beverage program, so prepare to geek on everything from coffee and tea to wine and beer. Bartenders are expected to contribute originals to each seasons' menu, too.
An ideal candidate is a self-starter that thrives as a teammate. If you don't love this game, we're probably not for you. If you're ready to grow with a crew dedicated to their craft and community, this could be awesome.
All applicants must have a passionate interest in drinks & food. If you don't live for this shit, we're probably going to bore you. A Jammyland barback is someone warming up to being a badass bartender, and is willing to put in the hustle to learn. There's nothing we love more than welcoming a barback to the bartender fam. Please note: Nobody has to have perfect English to bartend. If you can accurately make and describe what we serve, you can bartend.
All potential servers are detail-oriented and great people-readers; you’ll find opportunities in getting to know our guests rather than just taking orders. Our servers focus on presentation from all perspectives for an exceptional guest experience to create regulars. This is where your "hospitality bone" will shine. Classic cocktail knowledge & previous corporate training structure is a plus. You’re in a great place that offers a myriad of growth and learning opportunities.
If you're naturally friendly and enjoy welcoming people to have a great time, you'll dig this. The best candidates will be multi-taskers willing to learn about the cocktails and cuisine that we serve, the culture we celebrate, and our mission to keep the art in the district. Having an NV Guard Card is a big plus. We're most concerned with folks that have a prominent "hospitality bone." Your looks, gender, orientation, etc. sincerely don't matter.
For all candidates:
An interest in music & art is ideal. If you can't stand reggae, this probably isn't the bar for you. To us, reggae is a lot like rum. It's often misunderstood. People tend to think there's a sameness to it based on a lack of venues that showcase its range. Rum is the spirit with the most dramatic variations in style, and it's made in every country on earth. Likewise, we'll be bumping roots, dancehall, ska, rocksteady, mento, lovers rock, jungle, dub, soca, and more in about half a dozen languages.
The most fitting candidates for all positions will prioritize & value genuine hospitality, learning, and team building. For real. We've put years into making this joint a reality and we're not throwing away our shot. We're a young, hungry, and scrappy managing partnership. This is our place and when we turn over the reins, they're going to teammates who were hired on site in an hourly position. We plan on growing our entire management team from within.
