Application for Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania's Career Works
Career Works is a new and exciting opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to learn career readiness starting in the 2019-2020 school year.
Career Works is an innovative employment and post-secondary preparation program that allows young adults to explore future career options while learning the skills they need to get on the path to success. Through job shadowing, conversations with leading professionals, internships, classroom skills practice and hands-on projects, students will learn professional skills such as communication and networking, resume building, interviewing, and financial literacy, while also earning a stipend* for participation.
Career Works is designed to help students finish high school ready to step into their career of choice through our built-in pathways to Apprenticeships in growing fields such as Information Technology, Healthcare, STEM, and Trades and Construction. Students can earn credits toward their apprenticeship OR credits toward college if college is their desired post-secondary pathway.
Career Works is a year-long after-school program running from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from October 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020 with a snack and dinner provided. The program runs out of our new BGCWPA space in the Tube City Center for Business and Innovation at 409 Walnut St. McKeesport, PA 15132.
During the summer, students can also engage in employment opportunities as Junior Staff with an hourly wage in one of our dynamic Clubhouse locations.
Students will leave Career Works with a stipend*, credits toward college or an apprenticeship, and a laptop computer upon successful graduation from the program. In addition, students get amazing work experiences and qualifications along with the skills to discuss their qualifications with potential employers, and opportunities to expand their social network with other young adults while exploring the possibilities in the Pittsburgh region.
*Stipends are based on average attendance rates as follows:
Average of 3 days per week - $800 stipend
Average of 4 days per week - $1,000 stipend
Average of 5 days per week - $1,200 stipend
Career Works is an initiative of Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, where we do whatever it takes to ensure every young adult can design and launch a great future.
