Sign-On Statement in Support of UnLocal United (ALAA UAW-2325)
We are thrilled to share that UnLocal Union has won recognition with a unanimous YES vote in their NLRB election. The bosses' stalling tactics were to no avail, because union members were energized and invigorated by unwavering community support.
While this form is no longer accepting responses, we invite supporters to continue showing solidarity for our small-but-mighty union by following us on instagram: @unlocal.united

We, the undersigned — community members, elected officials, and fellow workers — stand in strong solidarity with the staff of UnLocal in their call for immediate, voluntary recognition of their union, UnLocal United, with the Association of Legal Advocates and Attorneys (ALAA) – UAW Local 2325.
On September 3, 2025, an overwhelming majority of UnLocal workers declared their intent to unionize and requested voluntary recognition from Executive Director Tania Mattos. Despite Mattos’ own background in organizing her former workplace, she refused the request and instead opted to force a delayed election process through the National Labor Relations Board — a process now indefinitely stalled due to the ongoing government shutdown.
This delay has effectively silenced the voices of UnLocal workers and postponed the formal recognition of a union they have clearly and courageously chosen.
UnLocal was built to serve immigrant communities with dignity, compassion, and justice. Its staff — many of whom are directly impacted by the injustices they fight against — have consistently gone above and beyond in their work to defend immigrant rights, provide life-saving legal services, and empower New York’s most marginalized communities. They deserve the same respect, care, and justice within their own workplace.
By choosing to unionize, UnLocal workers are seeking greater organizational stability, pay transparency, fair working conditions, protections against retaliation, and improved benefits. These are not radical demands — they are reasonable, just, and necessary for the long-term strength of UnLocal and its mission.
Voluntary recognition is not just a legal formality — it is a moral imperative. In this critical moment for both the labor and immigrant justice movements, UnLocal has an opportunity to live its values by supporting the rights of its own staff to organize and advocate for themselves.
We call on UnLocal’s leadership to:
Immediately grant voluntary recognition of UnLocal United;
Respect the voices of its workers without further delay;
Engage in fair and good-faith contract negotiations that reflect the dignity and value of their labor.
The strength of UnLocal lies in its people — its staff, its clients, and its community. A just workplace is the foundation for just work.
We stand with UnLocal United. We call for voluntary recognition now.
Sincerely, the undersigned,
