Before you fill out this form, please review all of the information and make sure you are comfortable with it.
*There will be three dates for the audition process - 1/11, 1/18, and 1/25 from 6pm-8pm. All dates are Thursdays. It will occur in a location in downtown State College, details of which will be sent to you ahead of the first meeting. The first two Thursdays will be workshops. We will work with you and see how we all mesh. The third date - 1/25 - will be a group-based audition.
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND AT LEAST ONE OF THE TWO WORKSHOPS (1/11 and/or 1/18) AS WELL AS THE AUDITION DATE (1/25).
You will hear whether you were accepted into the company or not by the end of the day on Sunday, 1/28. If you were not accepted and wish to hear feedback on how you can improve your chances next time, we would be happy to share.
*Past January, those accepted into the Happy Valley Improv company - "company members" - will be expected to be available from 6pm-8pm on Thursdays, and from 8pm-10pm on show nights (first Thursday of every month). This is when we will be holding company practices. Treat it as a standing appointment. If you do not think you can make this commitment, we must ask you to not take part in the audition process.
*Company members are permitted to miss one practice per month (excepting extenuating circumstances). If a company member misses more than one, they are ineligible to perform onstage that month. If a company member goes three straight months attending two or fewer practices each month, they are eligible to be removed from the company. Company members who have responsibilities which present time conflicts with company practices can choose to take a "sabbatical" from the company until such a time that their schedule allows them to participate fully.
*Company members will be expected to read the book, "Improv for Everyone" by Greg Tavares. You can purchase the book through this link: https://www.amazon.com/Improv-Everyone-1-Greg-Tavares/dp/0985950706
*Company Member Benefits: Company members can attend any Happy Valley Improv show for free, regardless of whether they are performing or not. They will also receive free weekly practices/workshops with the four founders of Happy Valley Improv. Additionally, company members receive a 50% discount on any class offered by Happy Valley Improv. Company members are not required to take classes, but it is encouraged.
*Being a member of the Happy Valley Improv company DOES NOT guarantee you any amount of stage time. Your effort, progression, dedication, discipline, and confidence will determine your stage time. Make no mistake: we want you to succeed, and we want to have more people on stage with us! But we need to feel sure you are ready first.
*If you do not make it through the audition process, don't be discouraged! If you are still interested in improv, we will be offering a level 1 improv class in February. Anyone who participates in all three dates of the audition will receive a discounted rate for the course. More info can be found at http://www.happyvalleyimprov.com/classes.
*You must be 18 or older to audition. We WILL NOT allow auditions from current Penn State undergraduate students (or those who will be college students within one year of the audition). If you are a Penn State undergraduate student interested in improv, please contact Full Ammo Improv at http://fullammoimprov.com/. Undergraduate students are eligible to take our classes, so if that interests you, please visit our website at www.happyvalleyimprov.com/classes.
We are so excited to give the opportunity for company members to join our company! Please fill out the form below. If you have any questions, feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
