Julia Robinson Math Festival Volunteer Sign-up Form - May 2, 2020 - Chapel Hill
Please use this form to sign up to volunteer at the Julia Robinson Math Festival in Chapel Hill on Saturday May 2, 2020 in the Great Hall of the Carolina Student Union on UNC campus. The festival will be open to students in grades K - 12 and will run from 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm. (Volunteers will need to arrive by 12:00 or 12:30, depending on role.)
We need mathematical volunteers as facilitators at the math tables. We need people who are comfortable with hard math problems, and who can patiently work with kids to guide them toward progress. We are looking for guides who will listen to what kids have worked on, ask some (perhaps leading) questions, and then let the kids continue to progress. We expect to be able to pay undergraduates majoring in math or a related field $50 and volunteers with a degree in math or a related field $100 for their time. Payment will either be through Paypal or in the form of an Amazon gift card.
We also need general volunteers to help with set-up, check-in, clean-up, distributing snacks and prizes, calling out raffle numbers, and other non-mathematical tasks. Volunteers for non-mathematical jobs will not get paid for their time.
