Call for Artists - Twilight in the Round 2022

Il progetto ha la finalità principale di ospitare, sostenere e promuovere le nuove creazioni di compagnie emergenti e di giovani coreografi, italiani ed europei, favorendo la realizzazione di progetti coreografici innovativi e ispirati alla contemporaneità, supportando la loro messa in scena e agevolando la mobilità e lo scambio di artisti del panorama internazionale dell’arte della danza, dando vita così ad un terreno fertile di scambio e crescita  artistica e professionale.

Le performance selezionate verranno presentate sul palcoscenico del 33° Florence Dance Performing Arts Festival che si terrà tra giugno e luglio 2022 nel Chiostro Grande di Santa Maria Novella - Firenze, all’interno della rassegna Estate Fiorentina 2022 del Comune di Firenze.

La sfida che coreografi e compagnie si troveranno ad affrontare è quella di un palcoscenico circolare che metterà alla prova il loro materiale coreografico che dovrà essere pensato per una visione a 360°. Nella scorsa edizione molti degli artisti selezionati hanno trovato in questa peculiarità uno stimolo per vedere il proprio lavoro sotto una nuova lente, ripensarlo e trovare nuove possibilità di messa in scena.

Una delle linee guida lanciate dall’Assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Firenze per il progetto Estate Fiorentina 2022 è “Back to the 80’s”, una retrospettiva multidisciplinare e diffusa dedicata a quel decennio di fervore creativo che sono stati gli anni ‘80. A tal proposito le proposte artistiche che ne trarranno ispirazione saranno ben accolte; tuttavia le compagnie sono libere di presentare progetti ispirati ad altre tematiche per aderire al bando ‘Twilight in the Round’.

Call for Artists - Twilight in the Round 2022

The project has the main purpose of hosting, supporting and promoting the new creations of emerging companies and young choreographers, Italian and European, favoring the realization of innovative and contemporary-inspired choreographic projects, supporting their staging and facilitating mobility and the exchange of artists from the international dance art scene, thus creating a fertile ground for artistic and professional exchange and growth.

The selected performances will be presented on the stage of the 33rd Florence Dance Performing Arts Festival which will be held between June and July 2022 in the Great Cloister of Santa Maria Novella - Florence, within the Florentine Summer 2022 review of the Municipality of Florence.

The challenge that choreographers and companies will face is a circular stage that will test their choreographic material that will have to be designed for a 360º vision. In the last edition many of the selected artists have found in this peculiarity a stimulus to observe their work with a new lens, rethink it and find new possibilities of staging.

One of the hypothetical guidelines launched for the Estate Fiorentina 2022 project is "Back to the 80’s", a multidisciplinary and widespread retrospective dedicated to that decade of creative fervor that was the 1980s, in this regard the artistic proposals that will draw from it inspiration will be taken into particular consideration, however companies are free to submit projects inspired by other themes to join the Twilight in the Round project.
